Arsenal set to complete €50m worth deal

Unai Emery states Arsenal target Pau Torres is destined to feature for one of the biggest teams in Europe.

The Gunners were mentioned with a move for the Villarreal centre-half a year ago but have since purchased Pablo Mari and Gabriel Magalhaes.

It’s understood that manager Mikel Arteta remains keen on landing a defensive partner for Gabriel and his compatriot remains on Arsenal’s shortlist.

However, the Gunners face a lot of competition as Manchester City, Barcelona, Manchester United and Real Madrid have all been linked with a swoop for the 24-year-old.

And Emery, who manages Pau at Villarreal, claims the player possesses unique qualities which he hasn’t seen in any other centre-back at the clubs he has managed.

‘Pau Torres is an amazing player – I think he’s top. I’ve been a coach in Sevilla, PSG, Arsenal and I’ve never seen a centre-back like Pau Torres,’ Unai told Football.London.

‘I think he’s going to play at the highest level, he’s playing now in the national team but he can play in the top teams in the Europe very soon.’

Elsewhere, Arsenal star Kieran Tierney could allegedly be fit for Monday’s Premier League match with Newcastle United.

The 23-year-old star was absent against Crystal Palace this week, and Gunners boss Mikel Arteta revealed after the clash against the Eagles that the Scot needed a scan on a calf issue.

There were reports that the left-back could be facing an extended period on the sidelines.

But according to a report by The Athletic, the injury suffered by Kieran is not serious, with magnetic resonance imaging or shortly MRI picking up just ‘minor’ damage.
