Arsenal given big boost in pursuit of £25m African attacker

Reported Arsenal transfer target Patson Daka is likely to quit Red Bull Salzburg in the summer, as reported by the Salzburger Nachrichten.

And, after a superb breakthrough campaign at Salzburg, he looks all-but certain to follow in the footsteps of Munas Dabbur, Shon Weissman and Erling Haaland when the window opens again.

Arsenal and Liverpool are keen on the speedy Zambia international, according to a report by Far Post.

Daka, meantime, would be tempted by the lure of PL football, with West Ham also in the hunt for his £25 million-rated signature (Mirror).

With 25 goals in 28 matches in all competitions, this season – 18 in 16 league appearances – Patson appears to have outgrown the relatively small pond that is Austria’s top flight.

According to sources based in Salzburg, it’d be a major surprise if the 22-year-old ace was still leading the line for Jesse Marsch’s table-topping team when 2021/22 kicks off.

“During the summer transfer period, there will be a lot of inquiries from clubs in the top European leagues. Players will also leave us,” RB Salzburg’s senior figure Christoph Freund admitted.

And if the 22-year-old star can emulate the impact of a man Daka has frequently been compared to throughout his young career, this will be £25m very well spent.

“When I saw Patson Daka, what came into my mind is this guy is the next Thierry Henry – and in no time he has proven it,” former boss Dan Kabwe told News Diggers last year.
