Arsenal keep a close eye on €20m-rated Turkey international

Arsenal were allegedly interested in Orkun Kokcu in 2020 as a potential replacement for Mesut Ozil.

Now, the Feyenoord youngster has admitted that, because of financial issues at his club, he is now open to a move away.

Sky Sports reported last year that the midfielder was on the Gunners’ radar with a view to a move in the summer of 2020, while Everton were also mentioned with the talented 20-year-old.

In spite of his young age, Orkun has already made 68 appearances for the Eredivisie side, registering nine goals and 11 assists across all competitions.

Feyenoord managed to tie the player down to a new five-year deal last year, but with the club in financial trouble, he’s now open to a transfer away.

“I still have a contract until 2025, but the situation has changed,” the Turkish ace told Voetbal International.

“Feyenoord have been very open about the financial situation, and it is clear that the club is ending up in the minus.

“If a club comes to me with a good story and Feyenoord can make money from it, I can imagine that I will listen to it.”

A technically gifted midfielder, Orkun has been deployed as a number 10, as a defensive midfielder and as a box-to-box midfielder.

Kokcu boasts great vision, is a brilliant dribbler and is able to dictate the tempo and pull the strings in the middle of the park.

MD stated last year that Arsenal were eyeing him as a potential replacement for now-Fenerbahce player Mesut Ozil, while the Evening Standard stated the Gunners were planning a £23 million offer.
