GOOD NEWS: £50,000-a-week midfielder set to pen long-term contract with Arsenal

Mohamed Elneny says he would be ‘happy’ to sign a new deal at the London giants after being brought back into the fold by the Spanish manager. The 28-year-old midfielder was deemed surplus to requirements by ex-Arsenal coach Unai Emery and sent out on loan to Besiktas for the entirety of the 2019/20 campaign.

But since his return to this Emirates, Mohamed has been afforded plenty of chances by Mikel Arteta and has rewarded his coach’s faith in him with multiple solid displays in midfield, including in the 1-0 victory over Man United at Old Trafford earlier this campaign.

Elneny admitted he always had his heart set on returning to Arsenal while on loan at Besiktas, and he is open to penning a new Arsenal deal with his current contract ready to expire in the summer of 2022. ‘Of course, for me, I am always loyal to Arsenal,’ he said.

‘If Arsenal says to me: ‘Sign a new contract’, of course, I would be happy to do this. Before I came back from Besiktas, Mikel didn’t speak to me but after when we came to the start of the season he started to speak to me,’ he added.

And he said: ‘Mo, we have new things now. We have to understand how I want the midfield to play and always if you don’t understand something from the new system you have now, just come to ask me.’

‘He was helping me so much to understand the way he wanted us to play and this is what helped me a lot. After the Community Shield against Liverpool, he came and sat down with me and he just gave me everything I’ve done, with the pre-season and the game against Liverpool.’
